Welcome Message
We are pleased to announce that the 3rd World Congress of Global Scar Society (The 3rd G-ScarS) and the 20th Meeting of The Japan Scar Workshop (The 20th JSW) will be jointly held on Friday, December 5, and Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Akihabara Convention Hall.
The treatment of scars, including keloids and hypertrophic scars, is gaining increasing international attention. The Japan Scar Workshop has been at the forefront of specialized discussions on scar treatment, leading the world in this field. Additionally, the World Congress of Global Scar Society is a global conference originating from the Scar Club in France. We are deeply honored to co-host the World Congress of Global Scar Society and the Japan Scar Workshop here in Japan. We are confident that this will be a remarkable opportunity for specialists in wound and scar treatment from around the world, including those from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, to gather and share their expertise. We anticipate extensive and passionate discussions on clinical and fundamental topics related to scars and wound healing from an international perspective.
The Japan Scar Workshop (JSW) will mark its 20th anniversary in 2025, a significant milestone. Over the years, the JSW has held annual workshops that feature panel discussions by experts who have long been involved in the treatment of scars and keloids. All of these discussions have been published in the Scar Management (published by Zennihon Byoin Shuppankai), resulting in two major achievements.
The first is the creation of the "Japan Scar Workshop Scar Scale (JSS)," which was developed to enable anyone to easily diagnose keloids and hypertrophic scars. The first edition was published in 2011, followed by the second edition in 2015, and the latest version, JSS 2015, has been widely used since then.
The second major achievement is the publication of the "Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars" in July 2018, which provides practical guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment. This guideline has also been published in an English journal as the "Diagnosis and Treatment of Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars - Japan Scar Workshop Consensus Document 2018," and is available for download worldwide via PubMed.
These achievements are a testament to the dedication of our workshop members, and we believe they have made a significant impact on the medical treatment of keloids and hypertrophic scars, which were once considered challenging to treat. At the 20th Japan Scar Workshop, we also plan to discuss the revision of the guidelines.
In our pursuit of scarless wound healing, we are diligently preparing for this conference with the aim of making it a valuable event that will help reduce the number of patients suffering from scars.
We wholeheartedly welcome you to participate and share your experience at this congress and invite you to submit abstracts related to clinical and basic research of scars, keloids, hypertrophic scars, scar contractures, and fibrosis. Let’s aim to achieve scarless wound healing and contribute together to help our patients overcome their scars.
