Welcome Message

President HirohisaYano The 69th Autumn Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology

The 69th Autumn Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology
President Hirohisa Yano
Department of Pathology, Kurume University School of Medicine

The 69th Autumn Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology will be held at Kurume City Plaza, Fukuoka, on November 9 and 10, 2023. We have asked Professor Koichi Oshima and Professor Jun Akiba of our university to serve as vice presidents.

In recent years, pathology has been deeply related to the latest areas of medical research and medicine, including genome research and medicine, identification and treatment of molecular targets of diseases, and medical AI. Its application is steadily advancing day by day, including the proposal of new disease concepts, the identification of tissue biomarkers, and the development of new diagnostic techniques. The theme of this meeting is "Update of Recent Development and Future Perspective of Pathology" in the hope that participants will have an opportunity to experience and deepen their understanding of the latest pathology and think about future prospects.

The program mainly consists of the Academic Research Award (Lecture A), Case Study Award (Lecture B), and Special Lecture on Pathological Diagnosis. This time, the Academic Committee selected 8 entries for Lecture A, 2 entries of Lecture B, and 2 topics of the Special Lecture on Pathological Diagnosis. In addition, Special Lectures, Educational Lecture, Special Program, Symposium, Poster Session, and International Poster Session are planned.

We will invite speakers from the world community to present their research on the latest findings in the Special Lectures. Dr. Matthew M. Yeh from the University of Washington in the USA will present the recent advances of the pathology of NAFLD, and Dr. Andreas Rosenwald from the University of Würzburg in Germany will present the key points on the 5th edition of WHO classification in malignant lymphoma. The Educational Lecture will be given on the topic of “Footsteps and Future of the Development of Artificial Intelligence to Support Pathological Diagnosis by the Japanese Society of Pathology" by 2 leading experts. The Special Program will be on the theme of "Training young pathologists in this way!”. Two leading experts will introduce new approaches: the use of PathPort and information dissemination through SNS. The Symposium will be held under the theme of "Current Status and Issues of International Consensus Pathological Diagnosis," and we have selected four organs and have experts in each field to speak on the topic. Also, we are grateful for the submission of 76 general presentations and appreciate your contributions. They will be presented in the Poster Session on the evening of the first day. We look forward to hosting an enjoyable evening with light refreshments, wine, and soft drinks, and we would be delighted if you could bring your friends along and engage in lively discussions. The International Poster Session will also be held at the same venue, featuring 17 presentations from 10 countries, focusing on Asia.

Depending on the status of the spread of the novel coronavirus, the conference will be held in a face-to-face format in Kurume. We will take necessary measures to prevent the spread of infection at the venue. We ask for your cooperation and understanding as it may cause inconvenience due to infection control measures. If on-site participation is not feasible, This Annual Meeting will be held in a hybrid format with on-demand delivery of the lectures after the meeting. We hope that such arrangements will facilitate the participation of many members, including those who could not attend on-site.

This is the first time that an Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pathology to be held in Kurume. All members of the Kurume University Department of Pathology and the Department of Diagnostic Pathology at the Kurume University Hospital will make a concerted effort to welcome you to the conference. We hope you will enjoy Kurume's B-class gourmet foods such as yakitori (grilled chicken) and tonkotsu ramen while participating in the conference. We look forward to welcoming you to the conference and meeting you in person.
